Sports Massage Reduces Injury, Improves Recovery & Enhances Performance!
Massage Therapy should be an integral part of every athletes life. Professional athletes, Olympians, college and high school athletes, and yes - even... maybe ESPECIALLY - amateur athletes and "weekend warriors" need to provide their bodies with the resources to recover from strenuous training, heal from injuries (or better yet avoid them altogether), and keep things moving and working well. Maintaining a body in tip-top physical shape requires a balance of: - Muscle and Joint Training for strength, speed, and endurance
- Proper Nutrition & Hydration
- Rest and Recovery to build and heal muscle fibers & tissues
Massage Therapy helps significantly with the last two items, in particular. Each time a muscle contracts, it leaves behind metabolic wastes that can get "stuck" in your muscles (i.e., lactic acid) - the long strokes used in Massage help to manually move these wastes out of the tissues and increase circulation bringing in hydration and nutrition need to rebuild and repair the muscle fibers and surrounding tissue. One of the greatest benefits of massage and bodywork to any athlete is increased Body Awareness and an enhanced mind-body connection. As muscles are worked and taken through range-of-motion stretches, clients begin to notice what motions may be causing a problem, or become more aware of the role supporting muscles and tissues serve. Often, clients return to our office after experiencing "a-ha" moments while training or playing, with new insight into how their body mechanics is affecting their athletic performance and contributing to pain or tightness.
